LUJ Students Enjoy a Field Trip to Asakusa

On February 19, a group of LUJ students braved the moody weather and intermittent rain and enjoyed a 40-minute walk to the historic area of Asakusa. The group left the LUJ campus building around 2pm and after walking along the Sumida riverfront they eventually reached the Asakusa Culture Information Center. The Sensouji Kaminarimon, Nakamise Street, Kannon-Dori, and Hanayashiki theme park awaited. If only the weather had been just a bit kinder.

Asakusa's history dates back as far as the Edo period, and it existed as an entertainment district until the firebombing of Tokyo on March 10, 1945. After World War II, the district was eventually rebuilt, and since its reopening has become an extremely popular tourist destination.
