Festive Fireworks and Trivia Triumphs: LUJ's Festive Events Recap

Lakeland University Japan recently hosted two back-to-back student events that brought a surge of excitement and community spirit to our campus. The Student Government Association (SGA), Student Affairs, LUJ alumnus Jun Yoshida, and professor Shey Weaver worked tirelessly to ensure these events were memorable for everyone involved.

4th of July Celebration at Midoricho Park

On July 4th, the spirit of Independence Day was alive and well at Midoricho Park where students gathered to celebrate with a variety of festive activities. Known in the U.S. as Independence Day, the 4th of July is typically marked by fireworks, parades, barbecues, and more, and our celebration was no different.

The event kicked off at 5:30 PM, with a diverse crowd of students and curious neighborhood kids drawn to the park by the lively atmosphere. Free hotdogs and other delicious treats were provided, setting the stage for the highly anticipated hotdog eating contest. The contest was a frenzy of competitive eating, with students vying for the title of hotdog champion in just one minute.

Face Painting added a splash of color to the event, while water bombs offered a refreshing way to beat the summer heat. As the evening progressed, sparklers lit up the park, creating a magical ambiance. Even a certain computer science professor was seen showcasing his sparkler twirling talent

Trivia Night at Muskie Hall

The following evening, the excitement continued with our second LUJ Trivia Night, held on July 5th in Muskie Hall. Hosted by LUJ alumnus Jun Yoshida and professor Shey Weaver, the event welcomed about 20 students and a couple of enthusiastic teachers.

Participants could join as part of a pre-formed team or show up solo to be matched with others, fostering a great sense of camaraderie. Snacks were also available to keep the energy levels high.

The trivia competition was fierce, with everyone eager to become the winners of the night. After several rounds of challenging questions that tested the participants' knowledge on a wide range of topics, it was Team Maestro who emerged victorious, claiming the title of trivia champions for the night.
