Lakeland University Japan holds Spring 2023 Commencement Ceremony
Lakeland University Japan (LUJ) held its first Spring Commencement Ceremony to award the students who have achieved their Associate of Arts or Bachelor of Arts Degree.
Some relatives of graduates came from the United States and Europe as well as from Japan.
Due to LUJ having three semesters every academic year instead of the standard two semesters, the university has decided to have its first graduation in the month of April followed by commencement ceremonies in August and December.
Hayato Ono a graduate from LUJ has stated "It's great to be able to have the graduation in April as I would have already been overseas later on this year".
Dean of LUJ Dr. Alan Brender also announced during his commencement speech that he was also "graduating" and retiring after serving the university for 17 years.
He stated within the ceremony about how the word "commence" in commencement speech can be seen as a verb to start something new, which he will be doing along with the new graduates who will be moving on to work new jobs and open new pathways.
Student speaker Haku Andou gave a speech, urging her fellow peers to not look back but rather to enjoy the moment as they are the ones who could choose their past, present, and future.
