Lakeland Legend Dr. Martin Ulrich Visits LUJ
On July 19, Professor Dr. Martin Ulrich came to visit our Ryogoku campus. Dr. Ulrich was one of LUJ's 'founding faculty' when the college was established back in April 1991. At that time, LUJ's campus was in Mejiro, with classes largely centered around teaching English as a Second Language.
During Dr. Ulrich's visit, he managed to reconnect with friend and former colleague Valdorian Cline, who joined LUJ's faculty one year after it was founded and has been teaching in the EAP (English for Academic Purposes) ever since. The two men, both of whom are classically trained musicians, had a cordial chat and discussed, among other topics, the intricacies of Bach's fugues.
Dr. Ulrich and his family had a look around LUJ's campus facilities and met with LUJ Dean Charles Laurier.
After teaching at LUJ, Dr. Ulrich returned to the Wisconsin area, teaching German and Music classes at Lakeland University, among other schools. It's clear from his career that music has been a central focus. Ever since 2007, he has been the Choral Director for the Wisconsin Gospellers, a United Church of Christ gospel choir that performs in venues across the state. Dr. Ulrich is also the orchestra director at Lakeland University and University of Wisconsin Green Bay-Sheboygan. You can view some of his music lectures on YouTube as well.
