Prof. Cavanagh studies so-called Secular Gurus---that array of "influencers" found on Youtube and podcasts, that have come to prominence in the internet age. "These figures have adeptly blended elements of traditional spiritual and religious charisma with secular and scientific sources of knowledge, leveraging modern social media platforms to reach millions."
