Upcoming Halloween Events at LUJ

By YuFu Huang

On October 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Lakeland University Japan’s Student Government Association (SGA), collaborating with Student Affairs, will launch its annual Halloween Event. There are 5 main activities scheduled:

Murder Mystery Game. This will be a clue-led puzzle solving with pieces of the murder story, and clues will be at different places on campus. The suspects of the murder game will be LUJ faculty, so be ready to find the villain among them! There will be posters coming out on campus with the finalized rules of the game before the event starts.

Horror Movie Marathon. Classic horror movies will be played in the Muskie Hall starting from the morning of October 31, all the way until the actual Halloween Eve. There will be free drinks and popcorn provided in the Muskie Hall, and anyone can join or leave the Horror Movie marathon anytime.

Academic Trick or Treat. This will be held at the SGA info desk on the 4th floor. SGA members will prepare Halloween treats and a list of trivia-themed academic questions, which will be gathered from LUJ professors. If participants answer correctly, they get the treats; if not, they need to receive a little punishment, such as five push-ups.

Face Painting and Photo Booth. Student Affairs has arranged for a Halloween-themed photo booth to be set up for face painting as well as photos. It'll be located outside Muskie Hall and on the 4th floor next to the coffee machine.

Costume Contest. This contest will either be held live in Muskie Hall in the evening or be done via online voting with participants’ costume pictures posted on LUJ's Instagram account. The winner of the Costume Contest will get a 1000-yen Amazon gift card.

In preparing for the event, the SGA and Student Affairs did find it challenging to arrange everything on time. “We tried ordering some of the decoration materials online to see how long it takes,” said Audrey Lei of Student Affairs, “but it turned out that it took much longer than we expected.” The SGA has asked LUJ clubs to help decorate the campus.

Despite the difficulties, the members are still very actively involved in discussions and are looking forward to completing the process step by step. “When the Scavenger Hunt is done, I want to play it myself as well.” said several members in the SGA. “I already feel excited about the different themes of the rooms!” said Kyoko Ito of Student Affairs. “I think students are gonna love our decorations.”

The President of the SGA, Naruki Adachi, is hoping everything will go as planned: “It is not an easy thing to prepare for this event, but let’s put more effort into it because it will be a great Halloween.”
