LUJ Welcomes Visiting Faculty from the University of Makati
Two distinguished professors from the University of Makati, Dr. Judith J. Batin and Dr. Sophia Deterala, are currently at the Lakeland University Japan campus as a part of a faculty exchange partnership between the two schools.
The University of Makati is a public university located in West Rembo, Philippines, about a 45-minute drive from central Manila. The two professors have been delivering a series of workshops on, among other topics, research methodology. They will speak directly to LUJ's writing classes, and also to graduate students and faculty.
Dr. Judith J. Batin, (pictured left), an Associate Professor in the Department of Languages at the University of Makati, has a wide variety of research interests, including but not limited to indigenous literature and cultural heritage. At LUJ, Dr. Batin has been focusing on undergraduate writing classes and how our two universities can create more curricular partnerships in general.
Dr. Sophia Deterala earned her PhD in Education from Liverpool Hope University and is interested in helping qualitative researchers with their academic goals. At LUJ, Dr. Deterala has already led a workshop with LUJ faculty exploring various research methodologies.
Both professors will be on campus for the rest of June and will be meeting with LUJ undergraduate and graduate students to discuss mentoring research. It's with their visit that LUJ and Makati hope to foster a more long-term faculty and student exchange partnership.
