LUJ Thanksgiving Food Drive: A Community United in Giving
This Thanksgiving season, the Lakeland University Japan (LUJ) community came together once again to support those in need through our annual Food Drive, benefiting Second Harvest Japan, Tokyo’s oldest food bank.
Food insecurity remains a pressing issue in Japan, affecting countless individuals and families. Organizations like Second Harvest Japan provide vital support to those in need by redistributing food donations to underprivileged individuals and community groups. LUJ's Food Drive is an opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to make a meaningful contribution to this cause, showing our commitment to fostering compassion and community spirit.
The LUJ community generously donated a variety of packaged goods, including noodles, canned food, instant meals, coffee, tea, miso, shoyu, and dashi. This year’s drive was a resounding success! The Student Affairs team, Yuko and Alex, took on the logistics, delivering the collected items directly to Second Harvest Japan. The donations will go a long way in helping feed individuals and families across Tokyo.
Our Food Drive wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of key contributors:
● Associate Professor Roger Grabowski, who has passionately championed this initiative year after year.
● Yuko and Alex from Student Affairs for their hard work in organizing and delivering the donations.
● LUJ student Zainab Abdul, whose creative posters inspired participation and helped spread the word.
