LUJ Leadership Meets with Peninsula Tokyo Hotel Team

On November 7, at 3pm, an LUJ leadership team consisting of Lakeland President Dr. Beth Borgen, Vice President Dr. Anderson Passos, Associate Vice President Charlie Stockman and LUJ Career Service Director Chiemi Tamura visited The Peninsula Tokyo, a five-star hotel located in the heart of the city. Currently the Peninsula's guests are over 90% non-Japanese.

The leadership team met for an hour with Ms. Meret Brunner, the current hotel manager at the Peninsula. Also joining Ms. Brunner on the Peninsula side was Mr. Satoshi Honma, the Peninsula's director of People and Culture, as well as Ms. Kotoi Yamashita, the Peninsula's manager of Talent Acquisition and Employee Relations.

The meeting started with a greeting by Dr. Borgen, who'd flown from Lakeland's home campus in Wisconsin to Tokyo for what was a packed business trip that included meetings at LUJ's Ryogoku campus building.

The leadership team's objectives were to offer possibilities of future collaboration with the Peninsula, including career development for enrolled LUJ students looking to enter the hotel industry. The team also brought to the Peninsula's attention LUJ's new major in Hospitality Management and discussed how students working toward this degree could involve themselves with the hotel. LUJ students have in the past worked as interns at the Peninsula as a part of Lakeland's Cooperative Education program.
