2 International Writing Conferences Coming to LUJ
In the fall of 2026, two international writing conferences will hold their events at Lakeland University Japan.
From November 14-15, the Japan Writers Conference (JWC) will hold its two-day weekend conference, featuring presentations from creative writing professionals here in Japan and abroad. Talks, usually totaling between 30-35 sections, will be divided into three genres: Poetry, Fiction/Nonfiction, and Miscellany. This will be the JWC's 20-year anniversary. The volunteer-run organization has held conferences in different venues each year.

"We continue to welcome all interested in sharing ideas on the art, craft, and business of writing in the English language," their website states. Three weeks later, the Asia Pacific Writers and Translators (APWT) will hold its annual conference at LUJ from Dec. 9-11. As their website states: "Over three days and four nights participants from all over the world will gather for the kind of eclectic and immersive literary programming APWT has become famous for. Part festival, part conference, part retreat, this is a literary experience like no other. You can take part in readings and panel discussions, absorb inspiring keynote addresses from international feature authors and participate in inspiring practice focused workshops. As is our usual style we will also be hosting dinners, cultural tours, mini-retreats and events in other fabulous venues and locations. In the neon city, our nighttime entertainment programming will be second to none."
