Miscellaneous Information:
Lia grew up in Seattle and has been teaching English as a second/foreign language for nine years. Before coming to Japan in 2013, she taught in South Korea, Italy, and the UK. She received an M.A. from the University of St. Andrews in History and Theology, and is currently working on her M.Sc. in Teaching English Language in University Settings/Applied Linguistics at the University of Oxford. She also completed her Trinity TESOL Certificate in Oxford. Her professional and academic interests are extensive reading and its effects on reading fluency, eclectic approaches to writing instruction, curriculum development, and continued professional development for ESOL teachers. She is currently working on a review of recent research of language learning strategies and self-regulation with peers at Oxford’s Department of Education, and also on her MSc dissertation on extensive reading programs in university level EAP instruction. She lives in Saitama with her husband.
