Employment Opportunities

Lakeland University Japan (LUJ) is an American Liberal Arts institution located in the Shinjuku ward of Tokyo, with a small branch program in Osaka. LUJ operates a pre-academic English for Academic Purposes (EAP) training program, and offers evening and weekend continuing education in our Open College program.

If qualified, you will be contacted and an interview will be arranged.

Current Open Positions

EAP INSTRUCTOR, TOKYO CAMPUS.

Position: to teach intensive skills-based English language classes, preparing students to pursue an American academic degree (Reading, Writing, and Listening & Speaking)
Start dates: Immediately; and April, 2019
Contact hours: 21.25 instruction hours, plus 5 office hours per week
Schedule: 8:30am-2:30pm, Monday-Friday OR 12:00pm-6:00pm, Monday-Friday
Salary: Starting at JPY360,000 per month plus transportation
Requirements: Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related field;
experience teaching EAP, EFL, or ESL preferred;
applicant must reside in Japan and have valid visa

ADJUNCT PROFESSOR OF ART, TOKYO CAMPUS.

Course: Drawing, 2-D Design, other possible courses
Start date: May 2019
End date: August, 2019
Contact hours: 3 hours per week (2 or 3 meetings)
Schedule: Flexible
Requirements: Applicant must have at minimum a Master's Degree in Art or related field;
experience teaching in American higher education preferred;
applicant must reside in Japan and have valid visa.
Possibility of continued adjunct employment in future semesters.

ADJUNCT PROFESSOR OF BIOLOGY, TOKYO CAMPUS.

Course: Introduction to Biology
Start date: May 2019
End date: August, 2019
Contact hours: 4 hours per week (2 or 3 meetings)
Schedule: Flexible
Requirements: Applicant must have at minimum a Master's Degree in Biology or related field;
experience teaching in American higher education preferred;
applicant must reside in Japan and have valid visa.

ADJUNCT PROFESSOR OF MATHEMATICS, TOKYO CAMPUS.

Courses: Intermediate Algebra, Pre-Calculus.

Requirements: Applicant must have at minimum a Master's Degree in Mathematics or related field;
experience teaching in American higher education preferred;

ADJUNCT PROFESSOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES, TOKYO CAMPUS.

Courses: Religious Diversity in America, Eastern Religious Traditions, Western Religious Traditions.
Start date: September, 2019
End date: Early December, 2019

Requirements: Applicant must have at minimum a Master's Degree in Religious Studies or related field;

INSTRUCTOR, TOKYO CAMPUS.

Course: Open
Start date: Late January, Late May, and Late September (every year)
Contact hours: 2 hours per week (1 meeting)
Schedule: Wed. or Thurs., 7:00 ~ 9:00 pm;
or Saturdays 11 am ~ 1:00 pm, 1:30 ~ 3:30 pm, or 4:00 ~ 6:00 pm
Requirements: Experience in the topic field
Interview: Shinjuku campus, Tokyo
